NEW DELHI: Question papers of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) were leaked in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday forcing the CBSE to postpone the test by a few hours. Immediately after the question papers were leaked, the CBSE postponed the two exams which were scheduled to begin at 9:30 am and 2:00 pm today, a senior HRD ministry official said in New Delhi.
"The exams for the 1st paper which was scheduled to begin at 9:30 am will now begin at 12:00pm. The second paper which was to begin at 02:00pm will now start at 4:00pm." the official said.
Sources said the question papers were leaked in Uttar Pradesh. About 12 lakh students across the country are scheduled to write the prestigious exam at over 1,600 centres in more than 80 cities on Sunday.
This is for the first time that the AIEEE is being held in the online mode. Nearly one lakh students from 20 cities will take the examination online.
Meanwhile, UP special task force's senior superintendent of police Vijay Prakash said they received a copy of the question paper last night.
"We faxed the paper to the CBSE chairman and it was confirmed this morning that the paper was original one," he told PTI.
He said that so far Bihar and Kanpur link have been traced and the STF was working on it.
Though sources said that some persons have been detained amd raids were carried out, it was not confirmed by the police officials.
AIEEE is conducted to gain admissions into National Institutes of Technology and other engineering colleges in the country.
